Let’s not sugarcoat it. If you work in advertising, you’ve either been laid off, know someone who has, you’re probably quietly refreshing LinkedIn after every all hands meeting.
GroupM just went through another wave of restructuring. WPP is rebranding everything and centralizing ops, which, let’s be honest, means more people got cut. This isn’t isolated. It’s happening everywhere—across holding companies, indie shops, even media agencies that were supposedly "safe."
The numbers back it up. We’ve seen five straight months of ad industry job losses. On average? About 1,400 roles lost per month. And we’re not just talking junior people—this is hitting across levels. (source)
Part of it is economic. Budgets are tighter. Clients are risk-averse. But the other part is structural. Big mergers like Omnicom gobbling up IPG are pointing where things are headed: XXXConsolidacion.

XXXTentacion
Consolidation means duplicated roles, tighter headcounts, and fewer silos. Great for shareholder decks. Not so great if you need a steady paycheck and health insurance to survive in the United States of America.
But here’s the thing: companies are still hiring. And the jobs that do exist? They’re almost entirely focused on performance, platforms, or measurement based on all the roles I aggregated for this listing (shout out to everyone who responded to my email and filled out the template).
Case in point, fatass companies like Google has multiple open roles listed right now, and they all sit squarely at the intersection of analytics and ad tech. You’ve got openings like “Video Measurement Lead,” “Senior Analytical Lead,” and “Customer Success Manager, Google Marketing Platform.”
Salaries are healthy too. Most roles are clocking in between $103K and $174K, plus bonus, equity, and the usual Big Tech perks. But the landscape has changed since the post-COVID hiring boom, these companies are being pickier than ever and the applicant pool is obviously a lot more crowded than 2021-2022.
What’s missing? Creative roles. Strategy roles. The kind of jobs agencies used to build careers around. As holding companies consolidate and merge, Omnicom and IPG being the latest merger, those types of roles are becoming harder to find and even harder to justify on a balance sheet.
So if you’re job hunting right now, be honest about what’s in demand. If you’ve got platform skills or can speak performance fluently, you’ve got options. If not, it might be time to upskill or pivot. Either way, we’ve pulled together a live sheet of current openings across the industry. check it often, and pass it to someone who might need it.
Job listing is here.
